Cyprus targets Chinese tourists

cyprus-tourism.jpgThe tourism industry in Cyprus recorded an increase in the number of foreign arrivals in 2007. The Financial Mirror revealed that it was nearly 11.2 per cent more than the amount recorded in 2006. The tourists include people from various European countries, as holidaymakers came from places such as Germany, Greece and the UK. These figures are likely to be welcomed by property investors in Cyprus, as it indicates growing demand for holiday accommodation and potentially lead to house prices going up in the most popular locations.

The Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) officials confirmed that plans to boost the number of foreign arrivals during 2008 are being implemented to increase next year’s visitor numbers to ten per cent higher than those recorded in 2007. The Cypriot government is making a changed bid to draw Chinese tourists using the Dubai’s Emirates airline.

Cyprus mail has reported that Emirates is the only link that exists between China, Malta and Cyprus. Although Cypriot government has been aiming the growing Chinese market for the past few years, the Cypriot newspaper reported that they fell far below the target aimed last year.

A spokesperson for CTO in an interview to Cyprus mail has said that the talks with Malta for working on the Chinese market mutually and figuring out the best formula is underway.
