International Airports in Cyprus
There are two international airports available, Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. Nicosia Airport is still listed on many maps; however it was closed in 1974 and is not in use for travelers from overseas as a result.
Larnaca International Airport (LCA) Information
Larnaka has a long history of tourism and the city boasts a truly dramatic setting, on the southerly Mediterranean coast, where it is home to the island’s premier airport. Located 8 kms south of Larnaca city, the airport is the principal port of entry to the Greek (southern) side of the island of Cyprus. The airport is situated on the B4 roadway, which leads north directly into Larnaca city centre. Transportation to Larnaca by bus is available every hour all through week days. The fare from the airport is €0.60, and the driving time is 15 minutes.
There is plenty for everyone in Larnaca, with its characteristic and historical Turkish Quarter being a labyrinth of traditional streets, white-washed Cypriot buildings and local craft shops. Tourists who wish to get to know the ‘real’ Larnaca, they will need to pay a visit to some of its oldest landmarks and buildings. Tourist information is available at the office of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) close to the Sun Hall Hotel. Larnaca is a notable resort and its attractions cater well for the needs of holidaymakers and sightseers, although most are fairly modern and commercial.
Nearly 5 million passengers per year pass through this airport; most of them traveling during the peak summer months on charters and scheduled flights from the UK, northern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. The car park is situated in front of the terminal. Parking is charged by the hour, and only short-term parking is offered.
There are 3 ATMs and bureaux de change in the arrivals hall and public concourse. Facilities are accessible round the clock. A post office open Monday through Friday is located on the public concourse. Duty-free shops in departures lounge and arrival hall offer a selection of luxury goods. Restaurants, bars and cafes offering light meals and refreshments can be found in the departures lounge and public concourse as well. Cyprus Airways’ Sunjet Lounge offers telecommunications and other facilities at all hours for business travelers.
Paphos International Airport (PFO) information
Home to the second international airport in Cyprus and considered to be the capital of the west, Paphos Cyprus is an outstanding holiday destination, and a city steeped in history. Paphos Cyprus consists of two separate areas, the coastal region known as Kato Paphos and the actual town itself known locally as Pano Paphos. Paphos is extremely popular with a wide range of tourists due to the cheap flights to Paphos and the excellent Paphos weather. Holidays to Paphos are like holidays to paradise and for history buffs, Paphos will seem like heaven.
Paphos International Airport is located 13kms southeast of Paphos, on the Mediterranean island’s southern shore. The single terminal serves scheduled and charter flights to the UK, northern Europe and the Middle East, with peak traffic occurring in the summer months with 1.5 million passengers each year. Adjacent to the terminal, Short- and long-term parking is available in car parks.
Paphos, a 15-minute journey from the airport as the access road joins the B6 motorway, which runs along the coast. The towns of Episkopi, Limassol and Larnaca (about 100kms distant) are to the east on the same road. Bus service is available at the airport, departing from just outside the terminal building. The trip into Paphos takes from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic. Many tourists choose to hire a car, allowing them to visit more remote, rural areas. A Bank of Cyprus is available at the arrival’s area and there are also ATM’s and currency exchange facilities available there.
A nursery is open 24 hours a day (free of charge) in the departures lounge for those traveling with young children. Duty-free luxury items plus international newspapers, books, toys, gifts and souvenirs are available in the duty free shops inside the airport.. A restaurant, cafee and a bar serve light meals and refreshments during the airport’s hours of operation.
