Investors in the Cypriot market are likely to benefit from the introduction of new flights to the island. The Cyprus Mail has reported that British Airways (BA) is to launch new direct flights to Cyprus from the UK. The carrier will introduce a daily service between Gatwick and Paphos next month.

The service would help raise the profile of the airport and enhance accessibility to Cyprus and is also likely to lead to an increased number of tourists and overseas property investors considering the island as a viable destination.

Marianna Trokoudes, BA’s commercial manager commented that the launch of this new service reinforced the carrier’s commitment to Cyprus. She added that this could potentially boost the number of tourists visiting Paphos, therefore enhancing its appeal as an overseas investment spot.

Research by airport operator Hermes showed that during 2007, more than six million passengers passed through Paphos and Larnaca airports. Experts have said that since this figure has already been beaten this year, the final number for 2008 as a whole will be a record amount.

Recent report in the Mirror stated that the Paphos is predominantly popular with overseas property owners from the UK. The newspaper further added that its housing market has seen significant growth in recent times, with values rising by over 80 per cent in the last few years.

UK based low-cost carrier Monarch Airlines launched services from London Luton airport to Cyprus Larnaca airport, four services a week using Airbus A321 aircraft.

The carrier has also increased frequencies and an additional route will be launched from Manchester to Murcia that will commence operations from February.

Liz Savage, MD of monarch scheduled services said that the services are launched with respect to Cyprus popularity among British investors .British property investors investing in Cyprus regard this as an encouraging step that will increase accessibility.

Cyprus property market has performed well over the years and recent EU accession has made it an even safer place for investment in property. Liz savage further added that due huge public demand new scheduled services to Cyprus will be launched from Manchester and Gatwick.

Announcements from British Airways of new daily flights between London Gatwick and Paphos, their second destination in Cyprus, commencing from July further signifies the great investment potential of already buoyant Cyprus market.
